"It is a dream come true. It's an overwhelming moment in my career and I'd like to dedicate this award to my family, friends and colleagues." said Ronaldo after receiving the FIFA award from Pele.
Ronaldo helped United to Premier League and Champions League success, scoring 42 goals in the process. He also won Fifa's Club World Cup with United in December.
"It's one of the most important moments of my life. I'm extremely happy. After what I did in 2008, to receive this award is amazing and I feel very proud of this achievement."
"I had a great time with my United teammates and I expect we can repeat it. I am lucky to be part of the history of a club like Manchester United."
The accolade also completed a hat-trick of top individual honours for Ronaldo, who had already won the football journalists' Ballon d'Or trophy and the FIFPro World Player of the Year title voted for by his fellow professionals.
Ronaldo chose his favorite moment of 2008.
"It has to be when we, United, won the Champions League. It was the best moment not just for me, also for my colleagues and my boss. To achieve that was great and I hope to repeat it this year."
